Statewide, 92% of vehicle break-ins occur on unlocked vehicles. 

An overwhelming amount of weapons, mostly handguns have been stolen from such vehicles.

 

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office urges you to protect yourself against this type of crime by taking the following actions:

 

·      Always lock your unoccupied vehicles and do not leave weapons of any type in them.

 

·      Remove valuables from your vehicle. Criminals are attracted to valuable items left in sight.
